TheACE is pleased to announce that the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture has formally endorsed the Nigerian Comic Book Industry Report, published by Bookause Nigeria in partnership with TheACE.
This follows the Report’s endorsement by the Oyo State Ministry of Culture and Tourism in July, and coverage by Vanguard and The Nation, making Lagos the second state government to formally recognise the Report’s findings in two months.
The endorsement recognises the Report’s contribution to Lagos State’s creative and cultural economy. It permits TheACE to reference the Lagos State Government’s support across its official materials for the duration of this initiative.
This recognition arrives alongside another milestone. TheACE has been confirmed as an Official Media and Industry Documentation Partner for Lagos Comic Con 2026, and will host a dedicated MainStage panel session, “From Report to Recognition: Building Institutional Support for African Comics,” on Saturday, 12 September, from 1:45 pm to 2:30 pm.
We are delighted to begin revealing the panellists who will bring this conversation to life on stage.
A representative of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, under Permanent Secretary Bopo Oyekan-Ismaila, will speak to the policy and institutional side of this recognition.
Erivic Adedayo, Convener of Comic Con Ibadan and creator of Afroblot, the original African art style gaining adoption among artists internationally, will speak to the realities of building and exporting original African IP.
Nneka Evelyn Ojianwuna, Director of Bookause Nigeria, the publisher behind the Report, will speak to the commercial and market case for investing in comics as a publishing category.
