Vortex Entertainment Unveils ZAAMINAR, A Superhero Epic Rooted in Hausa History and Mythology

Vortex Entertainment has announced the upcoming release of ZAAMINAR, a new superhero narrative that draws deeply from the historical, cultural, and mythological foundations of Northern Nigeria while positioning itself within a broader, modern cinematic universe.

Set across timelines that stretch from contemporary Kano to ancient Katsina and the wider Hausa states, ZAAMINAR follows Ibrahim Shehu, a gifted young man whose life takes a dramatic turn after the discovery of the Zaaman Stone, an ancient artefact hidden beneath the historic site of Durbi Takusheyi. The relic grants him formidable storm and lightning abilities, thrusting him into a role far greater than himself: that of a protector navigating forces both seen and unseen.

ZAAMINAR is its deliberate grounding in the legacy of the Sahel. The narrative draws inspiration from foundational figures such as Bayajidda, the legendary progenitor of the Hausa states, and Queen Amina, the formidable warrior-queen whose conquests reshaped the region. Echoes of other iconic figures, including Gandoki, Iliya Dan Mai Karfi, and Kanta Kotal, further inform the story’s mythic architecture, alongside the intellectual and political influence of empires such as Songhai.

Rather than retelling these histories, Vortex Entertainment reframes them, translating memory, legend, and cultural identity into a contemporary superhero format designed for global resonance. The result is a story that operates on multiple levels: as spectacle, as cultural preservation, and as an exploration of identity, destiny, and inherited power.

Positioned within the expanding Vortex Universe Canon, ZAAMINAR signals the studio’s continued commitment to building interconnected narratives that centre African perspectives while engaging a worldwide audience.

ZAAMINAR Issue #1 and Episode 1 are scheduled for release on June 28, 2026, marking the beginning of what Vortex Entertainment describes as a new chapter in African superhero storytelling.
