Loi Awat

Loi Awat is a Kenyan film and television writer and stop-motion animator whose creative journey reflects the spirit of International Women’s Day 2026 by championing innovation, storytelling, and women’s leadership in the creative industries. Born and raised in Nairobi, her passion for filmmaking began at age fourteen when she wrote her first screenplay, sparking a path that would shape her career. While studying Electronic Media at Daystar University, she produced the first African music video created entirely through stop-motion animation, expanding possibilities for African visual storytelling. Loi later joined Buni Media, contributing to the acclaimed political satire The XYZ Show and the award-winning drama series Mama Duka, both recognized at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. Beyond television writing, she continues to develop independent animation projects that explore social themes and creative expression. As co-founder of Yoga Dance™, she also promotes wellness and balance, embodying a multidimensional approach to empowerment, creativity, and impact led by African women.
